About

Hello, I'm Alexander.

I'm a senior Oracle APEX developer with 30 years of experience building, modernizing, and supporting production Oracle systems.

Portrait of Alexander Kluev

I began working with Oracle in 1996, after starting my software development career in 1993. My work spans Oracle APEX, SQL, PL/SQL, SQLcl, database design, and deployment automation. Today I work as a Senior APEX Developer at Talan.

I was born and raised in Ukraine—in the previous millennium—and have lived in Canada since the beginning of this one. I am proudly Ukrainian Canadian, at home in both parts of that identity. Flag of UkraineFlag of Canada

Before joining Talan, I worked on enterprise systems in the public and private sectors, including major applications for the Government of Ontario. I later worked at Oracle on active Oracle Health projects and, toward the end of my time there, as a member of the Oracle APEX development team. That combination of customer implementation and product-development experience continues to shape how I approach software: practical, maintainable, and grounded in how systems behave in production.

Experience

A long view of Oracle development

I have earned six Oracle certifications across two decades, from Oracle 7.3 Certified Database Administrator in 2000 to Oracle Application Express 18 Developer Certified Professional in 2020. Along the way, they covered database administration, PL/SQL development, Oracle Internet Application Developer 6i, and Oracle Application Server 10g.

I am also a co-inventor of the U.S. patent application Repository-Based State Diffing System and Migration Script Generating System for Databases, work connected to early ideas behind repository-driven Oracle database deployment tooling.

Community

Sharing what works

I contribute practical material through the realSQLclProject, including detailed guides, SQLcl scripts, APEX examples, deployment utilities, and resources for AI-assisted development. I also contribute to Oracle forums, report product issues, propose enhancements, and share lessons from hands-on experimentation.

I speak about APEX debugging, security, GenAI, SQLcl Project, and AI-assisted APEX development. In April 2026, I presented at the Oracle APEX Bootcamp in Toronto.

Writing about Oracle since 1997

My first Oracle article, “Our Fight Against Duplicate Data,” appeared in the summer 1997 Russian edition of Oracle Magazine. The article is in Russian. It is a small artifact from the beginning of a much longer journey with Oracle technology.
